Certificate FAQs
How long does a pool safety certificate last?
It depends on the state: 2 years in QLD for a non-shared pool (1 year for shared pools), 3 years in NSW, and 4 years in VIC for a certificate of barrier compliance. See your state’s page.
Who can issue a certificate?
Only licensed or accredited inspectors — QBCC-licensed pool safety inspectors in QLD, E1-accredited certifiers in NSW, and registered building surveyors or inspectors in VIC.
Can I sell without a certificate?
In QLD you can give the buyer a Form 36 notice instead, which passes the obligation to them with a 90-day deadline. NSW and VIC have their own settlement rules — see the selling guide.
What if my pool fails the inspection?
You’ll receive a non-conformity notice listing what to fix. Most inspectors include a re-inspection once the items are rectified. Our failed-inspection guide covers typical costs.
